Every year for the St. James day celebrations fireworks are shot off of the face of the Cathedral. It is cool to see.

Is the cathedral on fire??

Lori and Kristina watch the show.

MMMM mmmm my favorite. Nobody cooks like you!

A plaza full of people in front of the cafe.

The crowd watches in the plaza in front of the cafe.

The week before Santiago's biggest holiday (St. James Day) the sanitation went on strike. The city began to quickly pile up with garbage. Finally, the day before the fireworks celebrations, the city and sanitation department reached an agreement.

So much for trying to recycle.

It was hard to walk very far without seeing trash, but it was probably the smell that was most offensive.

The summer heat made for wonderful smells as the trash spilled onto the streets and sidewalks.

A new fountain in Plaza Roja

A beautiful entry way.

The Cathedral

Stairs in the park

Fountain in the park

There are tons of beautiful iron balconies throughout the old city.

Plaza Matadoiro

The inside of the mall in SdC. That's right, there are apartments in the mall. If you worked there and got an apartment there it would be possible to never leave. Scary.
